Slave Made Coded Quilts Part 1

In the 1800′s slave quilts were an important part of the Underground railroad. They would symbolize meaning and tell stories. Straight line quilts were known as bad luck so they were often quilted imperfectly. If something bad happened, they would hang up a quilt with triangles that symbolized the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.

They also talk about the Monkey Wrench, Wagon Wheel, Carpenter Wheel, & Setting Sun Quilt.
