Traditional Quilting with Reproduction Fabrics, Part 1

Quilt Out Loud | November 2012

The saying, “what goes around, comes around” couldn’t be more true in the quilting industry. Although the new trends can be exciting, traditional quilting is still always popular.

Mark Lipinski first shows the scrappy quilt he designed with reproduction fabrics which was shown in the Jan/Feb 2013 issue of Love of Quilting magazine. Whether you are making a modern or traditional quilt, the design and fabric choices are important! Jodie Davis visits with Bobbe Benvin who has combined her love of history and quilting to find her niche in the world of antique quilts in designing reproduction fabrics.

  1. Could you please tell me the page number that the quilt that Mark featured in the “Love of Quilting” magazine is. I was unable to find the quilt pattern and would love to make it.

    • Tammy,

It’s the Jan/Feb issue. My apologies for the confusion!

  2. I would like to comment on the Valor Quilt “Stars and Stripes” by Bob Lipinsky.

Bob, just finished that quilt and I thank you so very much for allowing Fons and Porter to publish that pattern. I enjoyed the program on PBS, but really enjoyed making the quilt. I just finished it and used the exact same fabric that you used and it is absolutely beautiful. I have always avoided curved squares, but this was a cinch and so easy to make. Again thank you so very much for sharing and the opportunity to make your quilt.
