Learn How to Quilt Anywhere and Anytime

Quilt Out Loud | Episode 302 | August 2011-Week 1

Jodie and Mark are on the Jersey Shore, at the Spray Beach Yacht Club on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Summer vacation doesn’t mean the quilting stops! This month’s theme is quilting anywhere, proving a fancy studio isn’t necessary for outstanding results. You can maximize your space to quilt and pack to take your quilting with you when traveling.

How about a child’s lunch box filled with art and quilt supplies so you’re ready to go at a moment’s notice?

In their What’s Up? segment, Jodie tells us what new trends she saw at Spring International Quilt Market including lots of handwork, more modern fabrics and plenty of neutrals. While at Market, Jodie met up with longarm quilting machine guru, Linda Taylor who gives her insight as to what to look for in a longarm machine. Jodie and Mark look over That Patchwork Place’s book 501 Quilting Motifs which is filled with motifs for hand and machine quilting. Plus, you’ll get a good laugh over Jodie’s gifts for Mark from her Alaska vacation.

The watch part 2 showing the work of quilting artist, Carol Vehslage.

  1. Can you direct me to someplace on the QNN site that shows clearly how to end the quilt binding? What do you do when you have mitered the 4th corner and approach the biginning ? I have seen several demos but they all go so quickly that when I try to copy I can’t figure it out. I have all this extra fabric in the way and it just doesn’t work out. It seems so simple but doesn’t work for me. HELP me please, please. Thanks Marge

  3. Our end Debra. We re-encoded ALL of the over 1,300 videos for the new site for better clarity in the larger player. Evidently a few of them went wonky in the process. All of them have been checked and now we’re reloading them into the system.

  4. Betty Jo, Click on “Browse Shoes” in the blue bar. Then you can for example, click on “Quilt Out Loud!” and then a series (100, 200, 300) and then you’ll see all of the videos, both the shorter ones, and the full episode.
As for the out of synch thing, yup, we know. This happened when everything was reencoded for the new site for better quality. They have all been tested and those that needed it fixed and are being reloaded into the system. Our apologies!!!

  5. Nancy, yes, things have changed. We got a lot of feedback about the old site that people had no idea where to look for videos. So now there’s a sampling front and center on the home pafe on the new site, which is a great way to discover videos. For you, since you know what you’re looking for, go to “Browse Shows” in the blue bar. Then you can click on a show, then the series. The newest ones will come up first. Hope that helps you!

  6. Tineke, We are aware of this. All of the videos were reencoded for the new site to play more clearly in the larger player. A few of them aren’t synching correctly. We have reencoded them and are uploading them all to the system. Of course, as with everything, it takes time.
