How to Piece a Hexagon Quilt Block

Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting | 1900 | Episode 1904

Most quilt blocks we make are square, but sometimes it’s fun to mix it up just a little bit. The quilt in this episode features a snazzy hexagon quilt block. Mary is joined by Sandy Gervais and they will share how to cut hexagons using a special ruler, how to piece a hexagon quilt block in a log cabin style, and how to join hexagon quilt blocks without set-in seams.

Sandy uses the Fons & Porter hexagon ruler and protective glove to cut perfect hexagon shapes. The quilt in this episode, Feedsack Flowers, can be found in Scrap Quilts 2011Click here to view a full list of supplies used in this episode. For more quilting inspiration, check out and learn more about the “Love of Quilting” TV series.
