Design & Quilt Feathers with Longarm Quilter Judy Allen, Part 1

Quilt It | May 2012 | Episode 302, Part 1

Judy “Feathers” Allen, whose love of feathers began with a picture in a magazine, is welcomed to discuss designs and quilt feathers. Sometimes we want a feather quilting design that hasn’t been created yet, and Judy shows how easy it is to draft our own feather quilt patterns using various sizes of circle templates. She also shows how to make the overall design more interesting by varying each feather’s size. Judy demonstrates feather designs for every situation including straight lines, curves, mirror images, etc. Next, she’ll show how to place the design on the quilt, and then how to quilt them. Turn your love of feathers into beautiful quilts, as we design and quilt feathers with longarm quilter Judy Allen!

  1. I recently joined your program. This evening, I watched the Judy Allen segment on Feathers. The quality of the video was very blurry. Is there something that I need to adjust on my computer, or is this normal for your productions?

    Thank you for your help,

    • Hi Bona,

Two videos that were encoded at the same time had the same issue during the process at our video encoder. They’ve been fixed. So sorry for the inconvenience!

  5. Judy, this is absolutely wonderful. The Art and Stitch users will just love to see how your designs in the Art and Stitch Library came to life. Can’t wait to see the episode where you digitize the feathers!

  8. This and Lisa Calle were the two best shows I’ve seen. I watch them over and over! The only thing I would mention is that Judy’s book is out of print and is being traded like gold over the internet.
