Hand Quilting for the Rest of Us with Mary Kate Karr-Petras

The Quilters’ Community | Episode 99

Quilters Newsletter has featured some exquisite hand-quilted quilts featuring workmanship to which some aspire. However, those who may not be as accomplished in their skills should not be dismayed. There’s room for all levels of hand quilting skills. Some may advise counting stitches, but even some experts say it’s not about stitches per inch. The measure of success is evenness. See some of the spectacular hand-quilted quilts from the pages of Quilters Newsletter and share in Mary Kate Karr-Petras’ own experience as she shares her projects past and present.

  1. I am hand quilting for the first time, finishing the quilt of my late aunt, who had hand quilted most of the quilt. The quilt was found in an attic with many other things that had been removed from her home and stored away when she passed on. It was given to me to finish, but I am really not prepared to hand quilt, so your tutorial was very helpful.

  2. Thanks for sharing. I think your stitching is awesome! I liked the combination of the machine and hand quilting. It’s a wonderful way to get the job done by machine, and yet add an extra, personal loving touch, with the small sections of hand quilting. Beautiful! You should not be afraid to be proud of your work, I loved it all.
