Valerie C. White evolved from artist to textile artist, but isn’t sure why there was a disconnect between the two. Nevertheless, this passionate award-winning artist began developing her talents as a young girl, and after a career as a teacher and counselor, she immersed herself in her art. She has studied with some of the best the art quilt world has to offer which has enabled her to trust her vision and taught her to work with a purpose. Award-winning fiber artist Valerie C. White has been creating quilts nearly 20 years. A retired art educator from the District of Columbia Public Schools, Valerie shares her passion for textiles by teaching and presenting lectures nationally. Her work has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and internationally and has appeared in a variety of publications, including Quilters Newsletter. Valerie was one of 44 artists invited to create a quilt to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama and she is active in several art organizations and served as a member of the Board of Governors for the Speed Museum in Louisville, Kentucky.
