  2. Upholstery and cotton pieces in a quilt? Is this quilt going to be used if so, how do you wash it? Aren’t upholstery fabrics dry clean only? What’s a morter board?

    • Hi LottieSue – Sure! Many quilters use upholstery fabrics. Dry clean fabrics just don’t necessarily hold up to their intended purpose but go through the wash just fine. Have you ever seen the silks, velvets and satins used in crazy quilts? I wouldn’t necessarily wash one but they can also be dry cleaned, if necessary. Using upholstery fabrics or any fabrics that are out of the ordinary or expected just brings another facet to quilting. A mortarboard is the name for a graduation cap :) Thanks for watching!
