Shop owners, fabric designers, pattern designers, publishers, fabric companies, and many more gathered at Spring 2013 Quilt Market in Portland, Oregon in May. They displayed and traded patterns, quilt education ideas, fabric designs and… dance moves?
A large group of quilters-turned-dancers participated in the premiere of the Quiltmaker Shuffle, choreographed and taught by Gudrun Erla of GE Designs. You too can learn the Quiltmaker Shuffle with this free video! Follow along with Gudrun and the dancers as they show off their moves: shop, cut, sew, press, sew, press, quilt it, stitch it, and show it off!
Mixed-media artist Tim Holtz came over to the dark side—fabric design!—after gaining renown as a paper crafter. He displayed his new 100% cotton fabric line for Coats and Clark. The line, Eclectic Elements, takes inspiration from the paper craft industry and vintage found objects to create a mix of urban and nostalgic styles. Watch his interview with Jodie Davis at Market to learn more.
Also present were fabric designers Tula Pink and Vanessa Christenson, who introduced their new lines of thread for Aurifil. Tula is a fabric designer who works for Free Spirit Fabrics, and her new threads reflect her fabric and ribbon designs. See their interview with Jodie Davis on QNNtv.com.
Vanessa’s new line is called Simply Color, and the threads go with her fabric line Simply Style and her ombre fabrics.
