Congratulations to QNNtv's 1st Member Of the Month (MOM) winner:
Sri Poedjastoeti (Toeti)
MOM for July 2006

I learned to sew from my mother when I was growing up in Indonesia. She taught me patchwork and making crazy patches, mostly making use of remnants of garment fabric. Being a tropical country, batting was not used in Indonesia then.
I started to quilt only after I moved to the USA in 1989. I took a beginner's class from the Howard County Recreation and Parks not long after I settled in Columbia, Maryland. I was introduced to Faithful Circle Quilters (FCQ) Guild when I went to their show in 1992, and joined the guild in the same year.
While I enjoy and admire art quilts, I make quilts the traditional way, mostly hand piecing and hand quilting. The quilt in the picture was entered in the last FCQ bi-annual show in April. My inspiration came from Better Homes and Gardens Quilt Lovers favorite quilts. I used a lot of homespun scraps, hand pieced the apple cores, hand appliqué the vines, leaves and flowers, hand appliquéd the whole quilt.
I can't say anything about quilting without mentioning my work. I frequently travel internationally for work, which lately has been mostly to Africa. QNNtv provides an entertainment when I'm away, staying in touch with the quilting world.
