MOM for November 2006

Congratulations to QNNtv's 5th Member Of the Month (MOM) winner:

Cindy Fink
MOM for November 2006

Hi, My name is Cindy Fink. I'm so excited to be a QNNtv MOM. I am 52 years old and a Registered Nurse Case Manager, but my passion is quilting! The aptitude for quilting came from my grandmother. She made mostly embroidered quilts and finished them with beautiful hand quilting. My Singer Feather Weight machine, Maybelle, is named after her. The quilt guild I belong to is the Lake Area Quilt Guild from Clear Lake, Iowa. We have so many talented quilters in our group - some are pattern designers and many are long-arm quilters.  Check out our website at www.lakeareaquilters.org.

This is a picture of my family: son, Nathan - 27, husband, Chuck, me, son, Justin - 30, and granddaughter, Autumn - 7 yrs. old.

Our farm home is over 100 years old. My maternal grandmother was born here.

Our farm was honored as a Century Farm at the Iowa State Fair in 2003.

Iowa winter weather - a good day to sew!

My granddaughter, Autumn, with our cat, Pumpkin.

Our Golden Retriever, Reba.

The pieced pillow and small wallhanging were made from fabric I purchased on my trip to Germany and surrounding countries in 2001.

This 2-sided patriotic pillow was made as a gift for my cousin who is a Viet Nam Vet.

I like to try new things. This quilt was made with doilies using a pattern by Sharon Rexrod.

This Bunny wallhanging was purchased as a kit using the pattern "Prairie Blossom" by Country Quilt Stitches.

My Halloween quilt was also purchased as a kit called "Whoot "N Annie by Pine Tree Lodge Designs. It was great fun to make and embellish.

I call this quilt "Patriotic Patches", and it's one of my favorites. The blocks were from a $5.00 block of the month at our local quilt shop, Beehive Quilt Shoppe. I designed the quilt using those blocks.

Several friends and I have gone to a wonderful quilt retreat at Twin Lakes Conference Center near Manson, Iowa. Our instructor there is the quilt designer, Pam Kuehl. This is her pattern "Christmas At The Lake", and it was once featured in Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting magazine.

This large quilt for our bedroom was made from the pattern "Wedding Garden" by Linda Ballard.

Finally, I made this quilt from embroidered blocks by my grandmother. She worked on these blocks in the last year of her life at 89 years old.

Well, this has been fun sharing a bit of my life as a quilter with everyone. QNNtv is a wonderful resource for quilting knowledge and inspiration. I have it turned on whenever I'm in my sewing room. I keep a pen and paper next to my computer to write down quilting tips and websites to check out. Thank you everyone at QNNtv for your great website and thank you for choosing me as your November MOM.

Thank you Cindy and congratulations!
