My name is Nancy McBride and I live in Mission Viejo, California.
I began quilting about 10 years ago when a friend of mine was taking a Christmas sampler class at a local quilt store, and thought, I could do this. I have always enjoyed doing handwork including crochet and counted cross-stitch. In my first class I made a queen-size quilt as you go, log cabin, for my son to take to college.
Since then I have taken numerous classes and have made over 75 quilts, several types of bags, table runners and miscellaneous wall hangings. It seems the more classes I take, the more I learn. I enjoy the little tips you can pick up at class from not only the teacher, but also your classmates. It is fun to see the same pattern being assembled in so many different types of fabric. Of course, I always want or wished I had the same fabric as someone else.
I am very lucky to be a member of Beach Cities Quilter’s Guild. We have wonderful national speakers who also offer workshops at our monthly meetings.
I belong to 2 smaller friendship groups where we get together to sew, eat and go on road trips to quilt stores all across California.
My mother-in-law was my inspiration as she was a wonderful hand piecer and quilter and I am fortunate to own of many of her quilts. Most of the items I make I give away as gifts to family and friends.
I am looking forward to my retirement (in 20 months, but who’s counting) when I can spend more time quilting!
I am on the left, my daughter Kristen is on the right.
Rose Explosion
This was a fun class where you use 4 identical cuts from the same piece of fabric. It now hangs in my office and is a fun conversational piece.
Happy Birthday Dave
I made this quilt for my brother's 50th birthday. I incorporated family photos and used novelty fabric depicting all of the activities and foods he loves.
Bill and Amy's Wedding Quilt
I made this quilt for my nephew's wedding. Not only was it fast and easy, but I was able to make the entire quilt from my stash.
Deebo
I had this pattern for several years before I had the courage to start on it as it was totally beyond my realm of traditional quilts.
Jillann's Flip Flops
Last summer my niece was visiting and we made this wall hanging for her beach themed bedroom.

Jill and Josh's Wedding Quilt
This is one of 3 quilts I made for my son and daugher-in-law to give as gifts to their friends who were all married last fall.
