Starting Tips from Donna Moscinski
I would say find directions for a project you really want to do and then jump in with both feet, fully dressed, and hold on! My first quilt was the result of a 1985 magazine article in a Women's Circle magazine based on Eleanor Burns' Trip Around the World pattern. The title of this article was something like, "I can make a quilt in 8 hours." I actually measured and cut my fabric using a yardstick and a pair of scissors! Soon I discovered the rotary cutter as well as tons of other fabulous tools of the trade. I learned that any publication by Eleanor Burns' Quilt in a Day company is a fabulous tool for those of us who are self-taught. Over 300 quilts later I am still discovering and learning new techniques and am lucky enough to be able to share this knowledge with others through workshops.
