In September, as every year for 13 years the European forum of patchwork ( Carrefour Europeen du patchwork) takes place in Ste Marie aux Mines in Alsace, a beautiful area in France. More than 800 textile works from different countries were presented on several sites of the region. One could admire ancient Turkoman wall hangings which combines the techniques of embroidery with the sewing-together of patchwork, wonderful Egyptian shimmering-coloured works, mostly completed by men. Original works from Spain which was the guest of honor of this thirteenth forum, not to mention beautiful Russian patchworks looking like real paintings. There was for everybody’s liking. Contemporary textile art took a large place too with very original presentations from Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, and so on….
Fashion designers organized several shows to present their precious collections which combine traditions and modernity, for those who have a great feeling for them..
The United States were present too with a collection of ancient quilts and Barb Adams’ and Alma Allen’s visit with their wonderful works “ Home sweet home” inspired by old “marquoirs” , cross stitch alphabet samplers.
Just for the fun of it, a sales area, (essential for a patchwork freak) with around a hundred shops was open.
The diversity of all these works took our fancy and attracted us that’s why we invite everybody to the fourteenth European forum of patchwork next year.
