Ceasarea Quilters January/February Update

January found matters in full swing with the Committee having arranged some really interesting events to be enjoyed by their members and, on some special occasions, members of other needlework clubs and members of the public as well.

At the January meeting we were reminded that ‘Hamptonne Country Life Museum’ has asked for quilters to sit and quilt in the Joan Stevens Room when the museum opens on 18 March 2008. I have done this and it is amazing how many quilters from all parts of the world visit our Museum.

There were some quite amazing quilts at the ‘Show and Tell’ and their was a demonstration on ‘Circles’ by Maureen P, who gave a few tips on a number of different ways to produce easy circle shapes for piecing and applique.

On the 9th of February one of our very own and able members, Angela R, conducted a February Funday Workshop Day at our base, Trinity Parish Hall, on the quilting art of Seminole. Judging from the feedback this proved an extremely popular event and I feel sure it won’t be the last workshop we will see Angela do for us.

The February meeting was lively as usual, another excellent ‘Show and Tell’ and members were reminded to get their quilting projects ready for the event and to have forms filled out to give to the volunteers who had agreed to deliver them to the Headquarters FESTIVAL OF CREATIVE ARTS which is to take place at The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society (RJA & HS) Trinity. It will be open to the public from Thursday 13 until Sunday 16 March 2008 from 10.00 am - 6.00 pm (Closes on Sunday at 4 pm)

Mary Lou M very kindly gave members a demonstration on ‘Shisha Mirrors’

A new idea of a ‘Help Desk’ started this month and it is hoped that new quilters will come with their queries and let the more experienced quilters help them out. A sales desk was set up for members to sell their patchwork and quilting related items that they no longer wanted.

It was announced that Christine Porter would be doing a workshop on ‘Porters Puzzle’ and Squaring the Circle’ in March this year and that Anya Townrow would be visiting Ceasarea Quilters on 18 and 19 October this year to do a workshop as well.

The Harbour Gallery have allocated us space to display our quilts in the porch of St Aubin Methodist Church on the Weekend of 11 - 16 March 2008 and a request was made by the Committee for Stewards to volunteer to look after the exhibits on display.

It was announced that there is to be a ‘Mini-Quilt’ competition, no more than 24” square, to be held at the same time and any members who were interested should let the Committee know.

Lots going on as you can see and I suspect the next few meetings will be just as lively.
