Let me introduce you to an amazing quilter…

Imagine starting to make quilts at sixty and having them end up in a museum! Hortense Horton Beck, of Topeka, Kansas, did just that.

Inspired by a deep love of history, Hortense painstakingly recreated quilt patterns from a variety of museum collections, including reproductions of two quilts in the International Quilt Study Center and Museum Collection. One of Mrs. Beck's most remarkable reproductions, the famous “Reconciliation Quilt” is copied from an original created by Lucinda Ward Honstain which was made shortly after the American Civil War.

As I write this, National Quilting Day is coming to a close. I so hope you all got a little quilting, or quilt-related, time in. I sure did! I just did the quilting on a table topper we’ll be making in the May episode of Quilt Out Loud! The Aurfil 28 weight sewed perfectly in my Baby Lock Espire and I didn’t have to change a thing; not tension, nothing. This proves how much quilting inspiration is right at our back door. My guest co-host Rob Appell is a bundle of fun. Watch for him in the March and April episodes. Mark will also be making an appearance from the road.
